Jack and the Beanstalk.

In Jack and the Beanstalk the group will start as the magical bean and grow into a beanstalk. This uses physical movement and meditation to explore how plants grow.  Through embodying the growth of a magical beanstalk we thank the world for our plants and environment in which we live. The meditation ends on “Because you are the longest most magical beanstalk the world has ever seen and today you are going to make Jack and his mum very happy”. This starts to explore how we need plants to live off, how we can grow our own food and eat healthily from the environment. This meditation builds confidence, and self esteem as we grow into a magical beanstalk.

STORYTELLING WITH MEDITATION

The Giving Tree.

Giving Tree is one of the less traditional stories I have used for my guided meditations. A story by Shel Silverstein explores the impact human greed has on the environment through a little boy taking the trees, apples, branches and trunk throughout his life. In my meditation, we will be the old tree standing tall,  Throughout the meditation, we will be guided to lay on the floor and fall asleep with the boy. This is a development from the morals explored in Jack and the Beanstalk, although we need the environment to live off,  human greed is causing the destruction of this environment. This moral questioning through meditation encourages pupils to care and love their environment.  The boy and tree sleep together, we are connected to the environment in which we live through love and care.

MOVEMENT MEDITATION

The Hungry Caterpillar.

In The Hungry Caterpillar the life cycle of a butterfly is told. In my movement meditation, the pupils will find their cocoon and grow into a butterfly. As a butterfly, they will explore their new environment with love, care and gratefulness. Through taking on the role of the butterfly pupils are encouraged to love one another and the environment we live in.
